Health Guarantee
Our health guarantee: what it covers, how to make a claim, and what we ask of you.
This Health Guarantee is provided by Maine Coon Grove (“Maine Coon Grove”, “we”, “us”) to the original purchaser of a Maine Coon Grove kitten (“you”). It forms part of your written reservation / adoption agreement.
1. Before homecoming
Before homecoming, a licensed veterinarian examines each kitten. Vaccinations, deworming, microchip, FIV/FeLV screening and registration are provided as applicable to the individual kitten’s records, which are shared with you. Only documented items appear on a kitten’s profile. Parent genetic test notes are shared only where documented, and we never apply one cat’s result to another.
2. What is covered: 12 months
For 12 months from the date your kitten comes home, we guarantee against serious congenital or hereditary conditions that materially affect your kitten’s quality of life. The condition must be diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian and supported by written records and diagnostic evidence.
This guarantee does not promise the absence of any specific genetic condition unless that is stated in your kitten’s documented records.
3. Your responsibilities
- Have your kitten examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of arrival, at your cost. If veterinary offices are unavailable because of a documented closure or emergency, book the first available appointment and keep a record.
- Provide appropriate nutrition, a safe environment and routine veterinary care, and follow your veterinarian’s advice.
- Avoid further vaccinations in the first 10 days after arrival unless your veterinarian recommends them.
- Keep complete veterinary records.
4. How to make a claim
- Notify us promptly after diagnosis.
- Provide written veterinary records and the diagnostic evidence supporting the diagnosis.
- We may request an independent second opinion from another licensed veterinarian. If we request it, we pay its reasonable cost, except where material misrepresentation, fraudulent documentation, or records unrelated to the adopted kitten are involved.
- Never delay medically necessary care while waiting for a second opinion or a claim decision.
- We review each claim promptly once complete documentation is received.
5. Remedies
For a valid covered claim, we may offer one of the following, depending on the circumstances:
- a replacement kitten of comparable value, when one is available;
- a credit toward a future kitten; or
- a refund of up to the adoption fee paid.
Delivery and transport charges are not included in a health-guarantee refund unless your written reservation agreement or applicable law requires it.
You will never be required to return a sick animal as a condition of receiving humane treatment. Any request to return a cat must be medically and practically reasonable, and your cat’s welfare comes first.
6. Sudden death or serious illness
If your kitten passes away or is diagnosed with a serious condition, please contact us as soon as possible. A written veterinary report is required. Where the cause is unclear, a necropsy by a licensed veterinarian or pathology laboratory may be needed, where reasonably practicable.
7. Not covered
Ordinary, common or transient conditions are not covered unless specifically stated in writing. Exclusions include:
- parasites treatable with routine care
- minor respiratory infections
- minor digestive upset
- stress-related symptoms, for example after travel or rehoming
- cosmetic conditions
- injuries occurring after transfer
- diseases caused by exposure after transfer
- conditions resulting from failure to follow veterinary advice
- obesity and nutrition-related problems
- reproductive outcomes, where breeding rights were not expressly sold
8. General
This guarantee applies to the original purchaser and is not transferable. It does not affect any rights you may have under applicable law.
